Locksmith in the border region: the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany

Few places in the Netherlands are as close to two neighbouring countries as Heerlen. Within half an hour we can drive into Germany or Belgium. For people in the border region that raises questions: do German locks fit a Dutch door, which number do you call for the police, and can a Dutch locksmith work across the border?

Do German and Belgian locks fit each other?

Most cylinders in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany share the same Euro profile. So a cylinder from our van usually fits a German or Belgian door, and the other way round. The difference is in the quality marks: in the Netherlands we use SKG, Germany has other standards. An SKG*** cylinder with anti-snap protection is a good choice everywhere.

Which number for the police?

After a break-in, call 112 in the Netherlands if there is immediate danger, otherwise 0900-8844. In Belgium the police number is 101, in Germany 110. The European emergency number 112 works in all three countries. After that the locksmith can come and make your home lockable again.

Living in Kerkrade, working in Herzogenrath
