When a new cylinder makes sense
After moving house you never know how many keys are still around with previous occupants, builders or neighbours. After losing a bunch of keys, after an attempted break-in or when a lock becomes stiff, a new cylinder is the quickest and cheapest step. The cylinder is the part the key goes into; the lock in the door usually stays where it is.
SKG** or SKG***: the difference
SKG is the Dutch test mark for locks. A cylinder with SKG** (two stars) resists an attack for at least three minutes and suits interior doors, storage rooms and doors that already have extra security. An SKG*** cylinder (three stars) holds out for at least five minutes and has anti-snap protection. We recommend it for front and back doors that can be reached from outside. An SKG*** cylinder also meets the Dutch Police Secure Housing standard (Politiekeurmerk Veilig Wonen).
An SKG** cylinder costs from €89 and an SKG*** cylinder from €129, fitting included. If you want several doors keyed alike, one key opens the front door, back door and garage.

Multipoint locks and old locks
Newer homes often have a multipoint lock: one handle movement locks the door at three or more points. If it becomes stiff or something breaks in the mechanism, we replace the lock case or adjust the door. In older homes we still regularly find mortice locks without a test mark. We tell you honestly whether a new cylinder is enough or the whole lock should be replaced. The price for a multipoint lock is on request.

Questions about lock replacement
Do I get new keys with a new cylinder?
Yes, every cylinder comes with new keys, usually three to five. Extra keys can be ordered.
Can the cylinder stay in the same door?
Almost always. We measure the door and fit a cylinder of the right length so it does not stick out too far.
